The Pirelli Rally is this week-end and we will be heading into the notorious forest complex of Kielder. I have never competed in Kielder before but I have heard all about it and it is going to be a very difficult rally. As well as having difficult stages, Guy Wilks and a lot more very fast drivers such as Philip Morrow and Richard Cathcart are doing the rally (in addition to the competitors from the Bulldog), which makes the competition even tougher. It will be very interesting to see how the S2000 Proton will perform in the hands of reigning British Champion Guy Wilks. I had a spin in one of these cars on tarmac earlier this year and they are definitely a force to be reckoned with. I was surprised when the entry list came out to see that I was seeded at 2, I didn’t expect to be seeded this high as it is going to be my first time doing the rally but I will just have to get it out of my head and get on with the job. I will be approaching the rally with the same attitude which I approached the Bulldog, that is to drive at a fast and smooth pace without taking any big risks. I certainly won’t be going out to try and win the rally from the start but I will try to stay in contention with the likes of Guy Wilks and Mark Higgins as best I can. If I do find myself in a position near the end of the rally where I might be able to win it then I will definitely have a go!! Greg and I will begin our trip to Carlisle on Thursday morning. We will be doing our recce on Friday morning/afternoon and the rally will start with 2 stages on Friday evening, with 10 more stages on Saturday. As I said already, I know it is going to be a tough event due to the competition and nature of the stages but I am looking forward to the battle! |
